
Hilary Duff’s musical renaissance is in full swing — and it’s a millennial dream come true. On Friday, the Younger star announced the release date of her upcoming album, Luck… or Something, her first LP in over a decade.
Duff revealed the news in an Instagram post, writing, “my new album luck ... or something is out on feb 20th ✨ so much love, late night anxiety and a little chaos went into making this album - hoping you see yourself in here the way I have 🪩🍒 I love you and excited is the largest understatement.”
Duff’s announcement comes two weeks after she dropped “Mature,” her first new song in 10 years. The track, she previously explained, “speaks to my mature self calling my not so mature self on the phone many years ago” to discuss “a brief time with a lover that left me with so many questions.”
“She’s letting her know we landed softly,” Duff said of her wiser, more mature self.
Luck… or Something marks Duff’s first full-length album since 2015’s Breathe In. Breathe Out. The album, Duff’s fifth overall, featured the lead single, “Sparks,” which was her latest track before “Mature.” Despite its failure to generate “major success,” Duff said there was “still some work on the record that felt authentic.”
That Duff is releasing a new album doesn’t come as a surprise to fans. The Come Clean singer has shared photos of herself in the studio with her husband, music producer Matthew Koma, with whom she collaborated on Breathe In. Breathe Out. In September, Koma confirmed Duff’s plans to drop a new album when he shared a touching Instagram tribute for her 38th birthday.
“Working on your album with you this year, on your terms, framed how it works for you, has been the f***ing best and I can’t wait for the world to hear what it sounds like when you get to speak directly to your people without anything or anyone standing in the way,” he wrote on Instagram. “I’ll be cheering front row (not actually cause Ticketmaster has this new queue system so probably more like row 6), but I’ll be there.”
With Luck… or Something, Duff is delivering on her promise of “new music … or something.” After all, her musical renaissance was always in the cards.
“It was always going to happen,” Duff said on an episode of Jake Shane’s Therapuss podcast. “There’s no way that that was not going to be a part of my story.”
